About The Artist
"I like a variety of media and I like to experiment and find ways of making my pieces unique."
The Edmond, Oklahoma resident grew up in Arlington, Texas and began drawing, painting, and writing poetry at an early age.
“I have always enjoyed creating things and it has always been a great release for me, even as a child.”
“My art is an outpouring of myself, my emotions and how I feel at a certain moment. Few things are more healing than sitting down and making something that didn‘t exist prior to that."
Kim uses her talents to serve in several positions. One of those positions is on the Board of the Edmond Art Association. “Oklahoma has a large amount of artists who are so talented. The group continues to grow in number as more and more talent emerges. And the board members are a great example of people who are willing to take part and make sure that this organization thrives.”
Kim also serves as a volunteer in the "Meet The Masters" art program, which introduces first through fourth graders at elementary schools to the art of the old masters. "We talk about the works of such artists as Picasso, Monet, Pollock - the early impressionists. One of the artists we teach to the fourth graders is Diego Rivera, who was known for his murals. I hoped to let the children have that same experience. As each of my own children enter the fourth grade, I seek permission from the school, and do a special project with their class. So far, we have accomplished two murals, both of them on canvas which hang in the school. One depicts John Ross, the school namesake, and the Trail of Tears. Another is a celebration of The Oklahoma Centennial, which just happened to fall the year that one of my sons was in fourth grade. I drew off the designs, and the children painted the murals!" she says.
Kim’s work has been displayed and sold in many venues. “ I love working with the local establishments, restaurants, banks, and hangouts, displaying my work there. It has led to meeting great new people and having my work seen by many who would not have seen it otherwise.”
Kim hopes that her art helps people "find beauty in places they least expect it. I want it to send a positive message and inspire people.”
